It's looking like this might be an issue with my switching the Windows default audio device setting... which I do frequently.
For general Windows use, I'll often use the 003 set as default audio device.
But Pro Tools needs for 003 to NOT be set in Windows as the default audio device, for it to run correctly.
Switching back and forth I believe, is what is causing the occasional connectivity issue described above; simply re-choosing the Windows default audio device which I set before running Pro Tools, and then re-launching Pro Tools, seems to solve the issue for me.
