For the freezing I would completely uninstall EuControl and Pro Tools, delete PT Prefs (back up first if you like). You might also remove /Library/Application\ Support/EUCON as well in case the .plist file therein is what's giving you grief.
When I got my replacement S1 after a warranty swap I had to connect it directly to my workstation for it to be recognized. Then I could update the firmware. After that I could connect it via my router again as before.
