This was the norm when I was using Focusrite drivers and software as well.
But honestly it really depends on how well the drivers are written.
My Apollo’s rarely had that issue and people rave about RME.....
My experience with focusrite was as you have described
FWIW, This is why I use the Avid HDio’s , it’s a much more streamlined experience
