Yeah I hear you about the scribble strips and the 4 characters limit.

It’s something I have difficulties with at the moment having worked with every Digidesign hardware since Sound Tools and early Protools III back in the 90s. I’m also quite used with the 8 characters of the ProControl and also plug-in automation and editing using flip mode.

I’m running a 24 faders ProControl along with the edit pack right in the center.

Edit pack has some uses for me also and currently not supported with V-Control.

I’m also trying to sell my HD5 Accel rig which at this time doesn’t show much interest and am also wondering if I’m going on the HDX ship or not.

System is incredibly powerful and stable here for my needs in the main studio.

Only reason why I would jump to HDX is the 64bit compatibility of Protools Ultimate with several VI’s such as Kontakt and Superior 3.0.

But at the same time there is this little voice that tells me this..

Why don’t you buy a nice MacBook Pro running the latest Protools 2018 with an approved audio/midi interface and then sync this rig to your main HD rig. Creating a dedicated laptop for VI’s with plenty of power freeing the main HD rig for recording / mixing and mastering.

The more I think about it the more this is going to happen.
