Default Re: Monitors upright or on their sides??

So the HS8s, like most monitors, are designed to be used in a vertical orientation. Laying them on their side will basically create the effect of having two sets of speakers next to each other on either side of you, leading to comb filtering and a much less focused stereo image. There's a good Gearslutz discussion on the subject, which has an image from Tannoy describing what I'm talking about, but the overall point is that laying speakers that are meant to be vertically oriented on their side will result in a drastically different and not necessarily desirable sound from what you've been hearing.
