Mojave adds official NVMe *boot* support. Overall stuff is updated/improved in Mojave as well. Notice I have been saying upgrade the boot/system drive.... so uh clearly talking about booting.

Just that I had NVMe boot drive on high sierra and didnt remember doing any hacks.. also cannot remember which version of high sierra, but at that time the "official owc guideline" was to first update to high sierra (to get the new bootrom) and then swap the stick
