Well, what you ask for seems not very practical without using a modifier key upfront. Because typing an "i" will execute the PT shortcut "Snap End to TC", no matter if you type it twice, same goes for several other single key commands. And if you tell an app like QuicKeys or Keyboard Maestro to overwrite the PT commands it will create a mess, rendering common PT shortcuts useless.

Try to create unique key combinations for shortcuts that include modifier keys when you use simple a-z letters. Play with Keyboard Maestro, you will see what I mean. Make sure that you use every shortcut (key combination) only for PT on a per app basis.
