Default 2019.12 HD Driver install bricked my MBP

Like the title says.

PT 2019.12 Ultimate had been working on this machine (late 2019 16" MBP - see sig) with generic USB interfaces (e.g., Aphex 500 Rack).

Today was the day I was to move my HD Native system from my 2009 Mac Pro (see sig) to the new MacBook Pro, using a Sonnet Echo Express III TB-PCIe Expansion chassis.

No problem with the HW install. Mac System Information indicated all as expected.

Hooked up my Mini DigiLink cables - no detection of HD I/Os nor OMNI.

Internet sleuthing indicated drivers need be installed after PT. OK, I'll install the drivers.

Driver install process reaches a dialog that indicates system will reboot. System goes down...

After another 20 minutes or so, I powered off and powered back up into safe mode (hold Shift key).

It's been over an hour now. The PT HD Driver install process has evidently bricked my computer to the point that safe mode does not even work. Any ideas how to get past this?

PT on the MBP is 2019.12 Ultimate - matching driver release.
