Default New to EVERYTHING; need help with latency using Pro Tools SE

When I say I'm new to EVERYTHING...I mean it in the most literal sense. I'm new to Mac and recording. (I'm used to being "just" a vocalist, and using a PC) Now I'm experimenting with the production side of my music and using completely foreign equipment. Lolsmh I've picked up on a lot of nuances and reluctantly made the transition, but now I'm VERY distracted by the lag time between what I'm recording and what I'm hearing in my headphones...and extremely annoyed trying to "figure it out" on my own.

I'm using Pro Tools SE, and there are VERY few threads (overstatement) using that version of the software. Is there anyone who can help me figure out how to flatten out the vocals a bit? Everything I'm recording sounds really "echoey" (I'm sure there's a more technical term for it...I just don't know it). No matter what audio setting I use, the delay persists. I'm up for continuing to figure out other tricks to using this software, but I REALLY need help with the latency.
