I think albee was right on with his first suggestion. SM 57, popper stopper, and something tells me he might not have a mic stand either. You can get all 3 for $150.
You will not out grow the 57, I use one on something almost every day. As you get better at recording then spend the money on a mic more dedicated to just vocals.
