For problem 2 - hmmm.. maybe that's the point, but are you sure it is always exact 8 channels?
For problem 1 - It does not apply to this general setting - it means something different...
I'm selecting with Ctrl already selected/attentioned square in any Tab. And it doesn't scroll to this track. It worked previously for sure...
