It's you just comparing two results/mixes. Maybe two you are working on, or what you are working on and a reference (professional) mix.

By "cinematic", I mean more like how a 14-channel-stereo film score sounds in a movie theater.
I've Googled this, and looked around, but I haven't found anything. It's a technique I once saw demonstrated using ProTools in a Dave Kusak video course he's selling.
