I'm actually having the same problem only though the snare mic- I'm getting around it with a gate that is oh so finely tweaked- but I'd say that your best bet is actually all of the above- if you can automate and try to snipe that frequency- hopefully you won't have to go too far overboard on either to the point that it sound weird. The other option being find a producer who likes hi hat
