I would assume at this point that your rig would work like a charm as there are little to no issues with that setup from what I have heard (I have the non-retna version with the firewire plug) but I also haven't heard of or read of any issues with the firewire adapter, this was designed to do just that or it would have been black labeled or discontinued by now.
Your explanation of your system sounds awesome and I hope you get to enjoy it as I do mine.
