Iīve worked with some of the monitor controllers mentioned, like Grace and Presonus, and also with the C24, D Command etc. monitor sections. A while ago I needed to buy a controller for my home studio. Without too much money to spend but still wanting a good signal path with the least coloration possible (for the price), I opted for Drawmer MC2.1 (stereo only). But they also have a unit designed for monitor setups ranging from 2.1 to 7.1:

Itīs not the most beautiful of the designs, but you get a lot of really useful features, a clear signal path and the price is reasonable. Hope it helps.
