Are you sure it is not the tone pot itself being mechanically sensitive / microphonic? Do you hear crackles when you turn the knob or try wiggling it. Post a sample of the crackles on soundcloud.
I am not a high-gain amp user (strats into classic Marshall amps for me) so others may have a better feel here.
