I'll double check with the solo safe, but any channel that is record enabled has to stay visible if you want it to stay record enabled.

EDIT: Not having the same results regarding the solo safe, but the track un-record enabling itself was probably intentionally written as a safety precaution; most likely when disk space was much more of an issue.
