i use one along with ati5870 ( 2 Power cables) and HDX ( 1 cable)
so no need to downgrade graphics - card.

btw which graphics card you use and how many monitors you want?
I recently purchased a Mac Pro with an ATI HD 5870. I have a 4K 3840 x 2160 monitor working (at 30Hz) on the DVI port, but am wondering what the max resolution of the DP connectors are. They do not work with the 4K monitor, but they seem to be okay with a 2560 x 1080 monitor (with a DP input).

Just curious as to what your experience has been with the 5870 driving monitors on the DP connections. I assume it will work with the 1920 x 1200 DP monitors, but have not tested the DP connections with the 2560 x 1440 monitors.
