Default Re: ProTools, Nuendo, Nuendo ProTools....

This sure isn’t LA and I can’t speak for what’s happening there.

Yesterday, though, I went on a personal tour of the new Bose AV production/mix/post facility for Asia Pacific here on the sunny Gold Coast in far away Australia. Let’s just say they had a real budget for this. They’re still finishing off some rooms but the mix suite was kind of up and running.

I looked at what they chose for their core platforms. Full blown ProTools systems. The only other software they are going to use is Apple’s Logic in the context of some elements of music production. Their engineers thought it offered some productivity advantages specific to their workflow.

The relevance of this is that, whilst LA may well be the centre of the Post universe, there’s an awful lot of other serious facilities ... some that have the budget to choose virtually anything that's going to improve productivity ... choosing ProTools today. And, in doing so, continue to cement it as the dominant post platform.

Because of this, it will arguably require the same type of sea change that brought ProTools itself to the position it justifiably enjoys now before any new industry ‘standard’ or even revolution is truely heralded in. Even if ... like the adoption of Logic at Bose for some tasks, other programs offer specific productivity advantages.

Just an observation, FWIW, from afar.

Kind regards,
Paul Blakey
