It might work with third party interfaces that support digilink/TDM (check with the vendor, Avid never endorses these third party interfaces), the Thubderbolt Native box definitely won't work with "any ad/da box".
You can of course use the bundled Pro Tools 10 to run a USB or FireWire based interface etc, but that is hardly interesting in the context of this new box.
