Not for better performance, but in some circumstances some plugins work less effectively when hyperthreading so if that is the case, disabling HT will help.
Not a silver bullet though. In general (as in most processes have some idle time every now and then) enabling HT makes things more effective because it makes it possible to take advantage of those idle times.
Though if there is no idle time, HT makes performance worse because the additional process, for simplicity let's call it a dispatcher, has more work juggling processes to real working cores and eventually the dispatcher is asking the processor for more than it can handle, therefore stopping playback.
