Well, it won't be popular with the audiophile crowd, but for price and performance, you really can't beat the Behringer FCA610. It's class compliant, so no drivers needed, and has hardware control of the surround outputs. Plus enough outputs to feed separate mixes to performers, etc. Has been working fantastically for me for a few years.
