They have a small lump near the computer end that amplifies to compensate. It started as an experiment running an Akai trigger pad and that worked so perfectly, I bought another(and they were pretty cheap) and ran it thru some mesh cable wrap along side of a 50' HDMI cable. With an active HDMI splitter(around $39), I have a rolling cart with keyboard/track pad and a 24" 1920x1080 monitor that mirrors on of my screens
