Re: Allenstein OctaPC(8-core) and Quadzilla(4-core)

Anyone for an 8-core Xeon box from Dell for $730?

Whoops, sorry, you're right. The P182 doesn't have that, but the P180 does. Yeah, definitely take that out.

P180/182 don't have a CPU vent duct. Which part are you referring to?

Most places seem to have adjusted their prices by now. And as expected, a lot of places are out of stock!

Re: Allenstein OctaPC(8-core) and Quadzilla(4-core) *07-07-1

Yeah those look fine. Just decide if you want LightScribe. I mentioned the OEM chips for others; I saw that you had them listed.

Also, you really don't have to get the Raptors. Standard Western...

Re: Allenstein OctaPC(8-core) and Quadzilla(4-core) *07-07-1

Check out the OEM versions of the chips. Same as Retail WOF, just cheaper and no box (I think only 1 year warranty vs. 3, but when was the last time you heard of a chip actually going bad?)

Also,...

Re: Allenstein OctaPC(8-core) and Quadzilla(4-core) *07-07-1

You could also build the Quad spec, but with just a single processor and 2 sticks of RAM. Then when the Quad core chips come out, you don't have as much of an investment in chips. At that time you...

Re: Allenstein Quadzilla Machine *update*

Improv, I didn't see any heatsink/fan listed. Your processors are "WOF" meaning without fan. Just making sure you're not in for a bad surprise when you get all your parts in.

and a pair of Opteron 270 retail chips?
What drives do you have hooked up? You should start with just 1 hard drive and 1 optical drive.

Let's see if we can...

Re: Allenstein OctaPC and Quadzilla Machine *update*

Do you have the 8-pin power cable fully seated? Maybe try re-seating the RAM, or try just 1 stick of RAM for each CPU, then try just the other 2 sticks of RAM.

You don't have to get the exact same Corsair RAM, but it would be best. As long as the RAM you find has the same specs, i.e. speed, size, latency, ECC, buffered, etc. you should be okay.
