Does PT 12 support 4K video files

Hi. I'm doing the post for a movie project. The project is being shot with a Red in 4K with an Apple Pro Res HQ codec. I've imported video into Pro Tools many times, but not 4K. (BTW, I know we...

Re: Digidesign Interface Compatibility

We installed PT9 in a computer lab and it wouldn't work with our Mbox minis.

Is there something you have to do to make it work.

Digidesign Interface Compatibility

I'm sure this has been asked quite a bit, but after 10 minutes of searching I wasn't really able to find an answer.

Why will Pro Tools 9 (and probably 10) not work with Digidesign LE interfaces? ...

Re: Kick Drum

My Royer WAS angled. I've always angled the mic inside the kick because the secondary purpose is to pick up the sound of the shell. Plus, it had a wind screen/pop filter over it.

Kick Drum

Just wanted to share.

This afternoon I recorded a ska band. When micing the drum kit, against my better instinct, I decided to use a Royer 121 inside the shell, aimed at the beater. I had an AKG...

Re: Some Basic Film Sound Questions

Thanks for the responses. Much of this stuff I know, but some I didn't. For example, I always recorded my room tone/ambience by just letting the system record for a couple minutes without really...

Re: Some Basic Film Sound Questions

Thanks for the responses. My original plan was to use the shotguns into the camera as backup and guide track for the sound editor for syncing. But after reading the responses I'm starting to lean...

Some Basic Film Sound Questions

I'm a college professor in the broadcasting department at a midwestern university. This Fall I'll be doing a movie and recording the production dialogue into Pro Tools.

I should probably first...

Re: How do you bounce multiple tracks?

Use the Selector to highlight what you want from the track you want, mute any other tracks and bounce to disc.

If you're asking if you can bounce multiple tracks simultaneously, the answer is...

Importing PT, Natively, Into Final Cut Pro

I am working on a project in video and mixing/mastering the audio in Pro Tools. I have been told there is a way to import a PT session natively into Final Cut Pro. If this is true, could anyone...

Re: Pro Tools Mastering Normalize

Maxim doesn't have lookahead, so it can clip. The only way to stop it from doing that is to create a duplicate stereo track of the mix, mute it, put it through a stereo aux send, nudge the audible...

Re: So punchy...I like it!

The best way to achieve punch is heavy compression with an attack time in the 50 to 60 ms range. The attack time is critical. It shouldn't be much shorter than 45ms and not much longer than 70ms. It...

OT: Length of Time to Build Studio

It took me 12 years to successfully lobby for the space for a recording studio (I'm at a state university). Finally got it last year. Not an ideal space but they did it right (dual angled windows...

Re: Deleting Demos

Thanks both. I finally found the documentation and what I actually had to do to uninstall was trash the OMF bundle and then empty the trash. Didn't expect it to be called that.

Deleting Demos

Okay, I thought there was a sticky on this, but I can't find it. I keep getting prompted to authorize the Digi Translator when I boot up. It doesn't keep me from using PT but it's annoying.

How...

OT: Your Thoughts on Kick Drum Mics

We just got in a bunch of new mics, including some pretty expensive ones (Blue bottle, Royer 121, several Neumans, etc).

One of them wasn't so expensive: the Sennheiser e902.

In the past,...

Re: mic preamps and more

That's subjective. I have both the Portico and the 1073. Over time, I have come to prefer the Portico, at least for rock.

Re: Problem with S/PDIF on Mbox 2

Never mind. I got the problem fixed. It was my own forgetfulness. I forgot to choose mic/line 3 rather than S/PDIF.

Problem with S/PDIF on Mbox 2

I have a Neve Portico going into an "old school" Apogee Rosetta (A/D only). The Rosetta is picking up the Portico just fine, but the signal doesn't seem to be getting from the Apogee to the Mbox. ...
