PT11 on a Dell Precision 690?

Hi,
The Precision 690 was at one time approved for PT. Has anyone had any luck with PT 11 on this machine?
I am currently running Windows 7 64-bit, 8 GB RAM, nVIDIA Quadro NVS 285 graphics card....

Re: Turn off Input Monitoring

Sorry to hear that this is still not an option. Any singer can tell you that monitoring straight through an analog board sounds better and more natural because of the lack of phase shift that you...

Re: Instrumental and vocal recording distorting together

A master fader adjustment should only be one extra calculation.... should not be a problem at all.

Re: Instrumental and vocal recording distorting together

You can group all your channels and pull all the faders down. But, I'd have a master fader there from the beginning. You may have some very low frequencies which you are not hearing, but which...

Re: Instrumental and vocal recording distorting together

Do you have a master fader track or something to monitor how high your signal is before it leaves PT?

Re: Headroom for Mastering

Also to consider is how loud the mix is relative to the peak. Even if the peak is at a generous -12 dB, but the RMS level is -24 dB then there's not much anyone can do for shaping the dynamics in...

Re: Protools 8.0 Run on Mac OSX 10.5.8?

Running OS 10.5.8 and LE 8.01 cs2 here very well. It was a fresh install rather than an upgrade from 7, though not sure if it matters all that much.
But, I'd definitely back up your existing setup...

Re: Software license and core card

Okay thanks. So you see my concern would be getting stuck with a Core card and no software!

Software license and core card

I'm considering picking up a used HD 1 core card. Sometimes I see PT software included and sometimes not (on ebay). I thought if you buy a core card you also own a license to whatever version of...

Re: Does Pro Tools Le 8, Digi 003 and G5 work as a rig?

Running great here. PPC G5, OS 10.5.8, PT 8.0.1 cs2, 003

Was playing back 32 tracks yesterday and tracking two a time with a 64 sample buffer without a glitch. It's running way better than DP or...

Re: Mac g4?

Well there's something to be said for running a system that is known to be good/stable even if a little out dated. As long as it meets the needs of your studio. I'm still stress testing my "new"...

Re: Core Audio and reversed polarity

The polarity flip appears to be a happening on the input....based on recording a snare hit in DP and PT and observing the waveform. Tried both Broadcast Wave and AIFF in DP.

What's best for a G5

I just bought a Power PC G5 and was wondering what's best (most stable, least headaches) to run on this computer. I have a choice of PT 7.3, 7.4 or 8.01
I will be adding Waves 6 Platinum and...

Re: PTLE 8.03, "unable to locate digidesign hardware"

Just wondering if the frying of the firewire connection occurs only if you disconnect the 003 end, or would disconnecting at the computer end (while the 003 is on) cause the same problem.

Re: Message from a new PT user

Yes, this is one of my biggest problems with PT. (That and lack of ability to adjust timeline placement for recorded tracks). There are a couple workarounds, but here's one I came up with for the...

Re: "Magic ID" and corrupt session

Thanks guys. Things have been so stable that I forgot about the auto backup feature, but it was on. Yeah, you bet I will more careful with Rewire.

Re: "Magic ID" and corrupt session

Oh wow, forgot about that feature. Yeah, it was on. Again, nothing critical here, but I'd never seen that error and was curious. Thanks.

"Magic ID" and corrupt session

I had just finished a complex tempo map in PT and more than likely saved it a few times along the way. I had actually started the project in Record so I wanted to check on something in Record. So I...

Re: Hey U Short Cut Pros. Auto Record Enable?

I am not a fan of that feature. At least in Cubase you can turn it off. When Record first came out there was no way to turn it off, so you'd go to edit a track and it would be automatically armed.

Re: PT 9 and apogee

Well once it's digital, once it leave the Apogee, it's done....it will sound the same. But, if you're working at sample rates above 48kHz, then you'd need to use a direct Apogee to computer...

Re: PT9 Announced Today

Wow! This is quite incredible.
Can someone please tell me if it's now possible to turn off monitoring through PTLE, so that you do so in an analog mixer. Thanks.

Re: 003 inputs 1-4

Just did some testing:
440 Hz test tone -12.1 dBFS was used.
Ch 1 out to Ch 5 in (set at +4 nominal) returns a -12.5 dBFS signal
Ch 1 out to Ch 1 in (with gain at MINIMUM) returns a -12.3 dBFS...
