I haven't seen that error in years with my config:

Mac Studio
Blackmagic Ultrastudio HD
Sync HD, both genlocked by a
Rosendahl...

If you only want to tweak one channel at a time, your approach will work: i.e. Pan on Master Module, Eq & Dyn on dedicated Knob Modules and Sends on Fader Module. But the true Power of the S6 is not...

with the information given the answer is quiet simple:

S6

not just for the faders, also for the complete package.
If other factors like $$$, space, etc. are important, it`s totally subjective

I had the same problem here, updated OS (from Catalina to Monterey) and ProTools from 2022.6 tp 2022.9. Getting the latest Blackmagic Driver solved the problem....
