Re: Alternative to Pro Tools please?

Digital Performer. (there is a way to deal with the 20+ windows)
Ableton Live.
Both programs let you freeze tracks unlike PT.

Re: Happy with your mbox2? No? me too!

I returned my mBox2 within 30 days and luckily lost only 10% in restocking fees.
It was amusing to see a pile of returned mBoxes in the store....

Re: My builtin audio sounds WAY better than mBox!

It was mBox2, which I was lucky to return to the store.
I plug the guitar straight into the input on the computer now.

My builtin audio sounds WAY better than mBox! Why?

I was wondering why my guitar was sounding so twanky, clippy and dead. Then I recorded though mBox onto other DAW's that I have, with the same depressing result. I thought there was something wrong...

Re: CPU overload? That\'s ridiculous

Mostly it is the plugins that are not compatible with the latest PT.
Apparently PT is very finicky when it comes to plugin compatibility.
But even then the ones that came with it are CPU hoggers....

Re: what does your CPU meter show when not played?

Thank you.
Even when you disabled all the plugins?
This thing happens when I use both PT 7.0 and 7.3.
The plugs are compatible with 7.0
I still have time to return the mBox to the store and get...

I ma still trying to solve my CPU overload mystery.
When I don't playback the session and all the plugins disabled I get steady or irregularly pulsing 45% CPU usage. Is it supposed to drop after you...

Re: CPU or RAM? Whats the main issue?

I have the same problem to which I have not found any solution yet.
I've just e-mailed digi Tech Support about it. It totally baffles me.
I don't think it's you computer though. Assuming you've...

Re: freeze function or equivalent in Pro Tools?

Thanks, man.
That's not what I need.
I meant freezing a track to relieve CPU. Like in Live or Garage band and other DAW's.

Is there an Automation buffer in PT 7.3?

I can't find this in preferences and the "New in 7.3 LE" PDF doesn't say anything about it.

Re: CPU overload? That\'s ridiculous

My CPU meter is at 35-40% ,often spiking/pulsating, with all 14 audio tracks idle and plugins deactivated.
It only goes to near zero when I deactivate all the tracks.

I downloaded Live 6 demo...

Re: How to make PT run from a partition?

It didn't make any difference anyway. CPU usage is just as bad.

Re: How to make PT run from a partition?

I have a feeling you are right. I ended up just setting up a separate volume for audio files(sessions). I just can't afford the external HD for now.
If the PT still overloads my CPU I'll have to...

How to make PT run from a partition?

Re: CPU overload? That\'s rediculous

I've got 1.5 G.
I've just partitioned the hard drive into 3.
One for other uses, second (the biggest) for PT, an d 3rd to save sessions.
I hope that's right.
Has anyone done this?
Thanks
