You can use Apple Remote Desktop,Timbuktu or VNC. I´am using Remote Desktop to service 15 ProTools systems on a 100T Network. It´s very stable.

We had exactly this problem with the solo and the mute buttons. I´am quit sure it is a bug. I trashed the ProTools Preference file and the problem was gone.
