Any thing else you can think of?

Have you tried unplugging al usb, firewire, network, and thunderbolt devices while the firmware installs?

are you running the firmware update on an older (non qualified mac pro)? and what is the card the omni is connected to?

This was the reason stated by avid for not qualifying hdx for the older mac...
