It's one of the stupidest things about Avid and Pro Tools and what keeps me from being a real user of it. I don't need any hardware shoved down my throat, and Pro Tools "vanilla" is outcompeted by...

Re: Am I missing anything positive?

Right. I mean, if I could just buy Pro Tools fully featured, I would do that. I bought all the other ones on the Mac platform (I mainly use Logic but sometimes Cubase and Live draw me in). But I...

Re: Am I missing anything positive?

For me, it's the RAM cache, the video capabilities, and I'm always galled by the track limitations. That's been sticking in my craw since I was aware of Pro Tools. Like I say, I'm familiar with and...

Re: Am I missing anything positive?

OK! So, there's that. Anybody else enthused about this new software, or the direction it's heading in?

Am I missing anything positive?

Or is it really this bad of a train wreck?

I still don't see anything in the so called "vanilla" version that would make me switch over to Pro Tools from virtually any other software. Although...

Re: New Licensing

They've also been hearing you apologize for the company for years, Bob, and does it really look to you like anyone is happy?

I can't believe how many times I've had to ask you what it would take...

Re: New Licensing

God, what a horrible company. I wrote off Avid and Pro Tools so long ago for reasons like this, how have they been able to get worse in all this time?

I read all 75 pages of this and haven't seen...

Any thoughts on the future of HD?

With some recent revelations having come to light regarding the true processing ability of the HD processing cards versus what they software caps that processing as, how does everyone feel about...

Re: Logic 9.1 just went 64 Bit!

What are you going to use as the interface? I've heard negative things about using an HD rig as one with Logic- it seems as if between Apple and Digi that this won't be a viable solution for much...

Re: Logic 9.1 just went 64 Bit!

Yeah, the EXS sampler has been able to access its own RAM since version 8. How much I don't recall- I don't seem to recall a limit. Moot now, whatever it is.

Re: Logic 9.1 just went 64 Bit!

Oh, it booted into 32 bit by default for me- but I put it to 64 bit. So you do have control. It also keeps the older Logic 9 on the system, and I also have 8 should I want it. I don't know about the...

Re: Logic 9.1 just went 64 Bit!

Toolbox, how it works is that there is unlimited RAM accessible to Logic itself (and the OS and whatnot), and there is a single 4 GB allocation for all the 32 bit third party instruments and effects....

Re: Laptop and software stolen...any tips?

Hey Seth! This is your co-worker. I don't think this question is relevant at this point, but I couldn't install my version 7- I own 7.3 and 7.4- on my computer. Version 8 only looked for the serial...

Removing PT8's audio loops from hard drive.

Hey all, I need to free up some space on my laptop, and the gigabytes of loop content that is provided with version 8 (M-Powered) is candidate #1. I have Logic and all of those loops, plus I have the...

Monitoring PT through my Focusrite?

Hello all, I just upgraded to PT 8 and am using a little M-Audio Transit device as my PT interface, such as it is. All I want to do is to be able to mix a bit and get it out of PT. But I can't seem...

Re: Noisy preamps on Fast Track Ultra 8R, Help!!!

Well, it's pretty low end stuff, no disrespect, and I don't know if it will be worth your while to have it repaired... although I don't know why some preamps would be noisier than others. I'd maybe...

Re: Noisy preamps on Fast Track Ultra 8R, Help!!!

Why do you have the preamps set to the highest setting? What makes you think that would sound good? You have the knobs all the way up?

It isn't that good of a machine to do that with, I don't know...

Re: Problem between the chair and the computer?

You don't need anything to bounce at 24 bit. Just select 24 bit. You only need to be at 16 bit when you are going to compact disc. For anything else, you can keep it at 24 bit.

Even if you know...

Re: Mixing It to be Perfect

And by the way, you don't need to use plug ins unnecessarily. You will want your final mix to peak around -3 dB when you bounce- you can always bring it in to another Pro Tools project and normalize...

Re: Mixing It to be Perfect

Well, the first thing I would want to know about is your monitoring and mixing environment. Do you have speakers that are designed to be used for mixing, or do you have commercial speakers? You'll...

Re: Pro Tools versions

There is a lot of room for confusion.

The HD is hardware based, it has its own processing capabilities and so comes with its own plug ins and such. Also a different audio engine that the native...

Re: Pro Tools just bounces in the dock...

Thanks for the quick response- good idea, but no go. I also forgot I hadn't run the repair permissions in a couple of weeks, so I did that. Still bounces. I am downloading the 10.4.11 "Combo" update,...

Pro Tools just bounces in the dock...

I've seen this problem posted here before and think it is fairly common, but the search didn't turn up an answer for me. Anyway, I have Pro Tools M Powered 7.4 having been one of the upgrades from...
