Re: Automation before inserts

I routinely use the trim plug-in and automate it's gain parameter to be able to modify gains prior to other plug-ins. Works well but doesn't have the nicety of a yellow trim line to make adjustments...

Re: Maxing out an HD3 Rig

I, too, work at 96/24. Even with an HD6/Accel I can easily run out of DSP on my medium size sessions. The best way to manage this is by using both RTAS and TDM plugins.

Keep in mind that the only...

Re: Pro Tools 9 Waveforms

I noticed this too upon installing 9. Make sure that View>Waveforms>Outlines is checked. That helps.

Re: Multi-Mono Compresser/Limiter Dyn 3???

I'm so frustrated by this omission that your post is actually comforting — Lets me know I'm not alone.

Re: Mac Pro dual just as good as 8 core?

It's not just a Mac Pro 1,1. Look at my signature. It has a PE6R4 with HD6/Accel hanging off of it.

Re: Mac Pro dual just as good as 8 core?

A lot of my plug-ins are by Waves. Waves is good at combining plug-in resources for TDM efficiency. I also use a lot of the Digidesign plugins (EQ, compressors, expander/gates, trim) which are very...

Re: Mac Pro dual just as good as 8 core?

Roughly 20-30 audio tracks (mostly mono), 30-40 aux tracks (mostly mono->stereo), 150-200 plugins.

Re: Mac Pro dual just as good as 8 core?

I suspect you mean a 2 x Dual Core (4 cores total) v.s. an eight-core.

I would go for the eight-core. When you are mixing you can combine both RTAS and TDM. The extra cores will enable you to run...

Re: ADC Bug in PTHD 9

ADC obviously plays a role in this case since the red Dly indication is the problem. Nevertheless Dly should not go red for the type of feedback we are discussing. To correct the problem Avid/Digi...

Re: ADC Bug in PTHD 9

No, in fact it does still work. The problem is that it turns on the red Dly light thereby making that indication useless for indicating real ADC violations elsewhere in your session.

Re: ADC Bug in PTHD 9

There is no need for ADC to correct anything when an aux feeds back to itself, just as there is nothing for ADC to correct when a plug-in (like a delay) has internal feedback.

Think of it this...

Re: ADC Bug in PTHD 9

There is no need for ADC to compensate a feedback loop from an aux bus to the same aux's input. Doing so would serve no function pertinent to delay compensation. Delay compensation should only act...

Re: ADC Bug in PTHD 9

No, it doesn't clear it up. Again, feedback from a channel's bus to the channel's input was a useful feature that worked fine in 8.X and earlier versions and did not interfere with delay...

Re: PT 9 Worth It?

If you are working at 96k, long delay compensation is now twice as long (8191 samples compared to previous 4096) as it was in 8.X. For that feature alone PT9 was a worthwhile purchase for me. Saves a...

Re: What's your favorite new feature?

Delay Compensation Engine: Long
is now twice as long as it used to be, 8191 as opposed to 4096 (at 96k). This increased headroom will save a lot of headaches.

Re: ADC Bug in PTHD 9

No. Disabling ADC on the aux track does not turn off the red Dly indicator.

Try it yourself on a session containing only one mono aux track with a send bus pointing back to the aux track's input....

Re: PT 9 Pan Depth

Most of us mixing in stereo would like the loudness of a mono track panned center to be the same as the loudness of the same track panned hard right or hard left. The pan depth is designed to give...

Re: PT 9 Pan Depth

Per PT_Help, if you remove the Stereo Mixer from your plug-ins folder any sessions made prior to 9.0 will open with the -2.5dB pan depth of PT 8 and earlier. New stereo sessions will open with the...

Re: ADC Bug in PTHD 9

Suppose you want an echo effect where successive echos are increasingly band-limited (low-pass and high-pass filtered). Feedback within the delay plug-in itself will only become reduced in volume...

Re: ADC Bug in PTHD 9

I traced the problem to an aux channel with delay on it and a send pointing back to the same aux. This did not create an ADC problem in prior PT versions.

Simple procedure to recreate the...

Re: ADC Bug in PTHD 9

Playback Engine>Delay Compensation>Long (8191 Samples per channel)

The only settings offered are Short (2047) and Long (8191). There is no 4096 setting in 9.0.0. But even if the number of samples...
