Re: Thickening/Doubling Vocal Effect?

One of my favorite new tricks -- which, like many good tricks, I figured out by accident -- is to use varying amounts of autotune on duplicate tracks. Using the "auto" mode, and varying the speed...

Re: Fix phasing with nudging?

Hi Richard,

You're absolutely right, but I'm afraid you're fighting a losing (not to mention very old) battle of semantics. How many console manufacturers have made boards with buttons called...

Re: FAN IN THE BOOTH????? HELP

Important to understand: it's not a "switch to eliminate background noise" -- it's a low frequency rolloff switch (usually around 75 hz on most mics). I don't agree with the statement that it...

Re: Fix phasing with nudging?

For those who say phase and timing are the same thing, try this simple experiment:

Copy a track and paste its contents onto an adjacent track; use the audiosuite 1-band EQ to reverse the phase (or...

Re: Mastering - Trying to make it sound louder

I don't find it difficult to make mixes LOUD. Just L1 them until they're distorted and sound as bad as most of the new pop records coming out. The much more difficult thing is to make them sound as...

Re: Fix phasing with nudging?

Maybe this is just a semantic distinction, but strictly speaking, you can't fix phase problems with nudging. You can fix TIMING problems (such as arrival time differences between close drum mics and...

Re: Mutt Lange\'s Famous Background Vocals

The other thing I've heard about Mutt (from guys at the Nashville studio where he and Shania have recorded recently) is that he does a LOT of tracks -- like 10 to 12 overdubs of himself and Shania...

Re: Some help in Mixing Pop Rock tracks

Hi,

I really don't mean this in a sarcastic way, but honestly the best answer to your question is "it depends on how the tracks sound." If the drum samples are truly "high-end", you may not need...

Re: choosing a place for recording...

Hi,

Are you saying you plan to mic the choir members individually? I would highly recommend against that. Individual close micing would defeat the purpose of recording in a good-sounding room. ...

Re: How do rock singers acquire a raspy voice?like JamesBrown, RodStewert, SamCooke?

I just have to mention one of my favorite examples of vocal talent/range of expressiveness: on the Beatles' White album the songs "Why Don't We Do it in the Road" and "I Will" appear consecutively. ...

Re: acoustic guitar recording advice

The rolloff switch is a good idea.

One other thought:

You referred to "eqing OUT" the low end. I got the impression you were either cutting it severely or not at all. Try incrementally...

Re: I finally did it...

Thanks a bunch!

I guess maybe I should have done a little more experimentation myself before asking, but I appreciate your quick assistance. Hopefully I can return the favor sometime.

Re: overdubs in PT

I can't believe I'm doing this, but here goes:

Create a new track...record enable the track...hit record on the transport, then hit play. You could choose "Punch-in" recording under (I think)...

Re: Are there any big name CD\'s that have been done soley on Digi 001?

I just thought of something...

Why would it be discouraging to tell someone they'd probably need to go outside for mastering and possibly mixing in order to achieve "big name" quality? If you're...

Re: I finally did it...

Thanks, Ray.

Does that still work if you're replacing a file with one of a different length? That's where I figured I'd run into problems.

I appreciate the quick reply.

I finally did it...

Ok, I'm an idiot. For the first time in over 15 years of recording, I have zapped some essential tracks. It's a long story how, and probably a good idea for a thread in itself, but for now I need...

Thank you Bob Olhsson for your post. As I was reading down this thread I thought of a lot of things I wanted to add; then I got to Bob's post and he said it all -- much better than I could ever have...
