I've tried all of the TD style plugs and compared them to my TD4. While they were all useful to some extent none of them were as easy to use nor produced the same great results as the hardware.

It's a character that's reserved for OSX, there are others as well. This is the leading cause of -9035 errors. I only use alpha numeric characters and '+' and '-' for naming tracks, sessions etc.

Go to Hardware Setup and make sure that AES is selected in the "Digital" tab and then set up the "Main" tab so that your AES connections come up in the correct places.
