i need to make up some leads for a location recording. When running from the mic to the pre, how long can i safely run cables before noticable degredation occurs ?

when i said noisy i meant they were throwing a hissy fit when the music wasn't playing and even during quiet passages too.

Your right when you say they are old and were reasonably...

i love my old dbx160's for the same reason as everyone else. kik and snare. but i find them pretty noisy.
A previous owner had the units balanced but i haven't seen any isolating transformers...

what about dbx 165a or urei LA-22 comps ?

i'm thinking about buying one or two but i haven't ever used them. In fact the only 'pro' comp i've really used is the 1176.

when tracking drums directly to digital, what do you guys think are the best drum compressor configurations ?
