Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

I have the Fractal Define R6 (non-XL), the same CPU cooler as you and I have tall RAM. I need to raise the front fan on the cooler a bit, but it all fits. Maybe challenge them on this issue - or ask...

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

I would always keep the OS on it's own physical drive.

Like I said on GS, the build looks quite good, although upping RAM to a mid-level higher XMP one is something I would do.

I would also...

Re: How to disable the Avid ASIO Driver when using HDX

The fullscale noise is related to DVS Windows settings. It needs to be set to 32bit in DVS' "Options" (I worked that bit already out), but the troubles I'm having follow that.

I also have my old...

Re: ProTools 2023.12 available for download on Avid site:-)

Thank you for the 2023.12.1 Atmos bounce Glitch fix - I lost several days of work for that one, and my nerves... But the fix seems to be working.

After working some more, I have now used the...

How to disable the Avid ASIO Driver when using HDX

I cannot find this anywhere.

I want the Avid ASIO Driver uninstalled / disabled to test a problem with Dolby Atmos Renderer 5.2 (I'm trying to run it independently of Pro Tools using Dante...

Re: ProTools 2023.12 available for download on Avid site:-)

Right, the subpath thing I mentioned is a big problem. I didn't even check binaural settings behaviour much yet - are the IO setup settings overriding external renderer settings? The (typo-ridden)...

Re: ProTools 2023.12 available for download on Avid site:-)

PT 2023.12 integrated renderer seems to be a failure to those of us mixing in 7.1.4 or 9.1.6, who would like to switch back and forth between our current external renderer setups, and the new...

Need a preference to disable DSP Mode completely when using the Hybrid Mixer

We need a toggle to disable DSP Mode from all tracks / make all tracks DSP Mode Safe by default when using the Hybrid Mixer.

When editing and mixing, I use the Hybrid Mixer for 100% native...

Re: 911! Anyone know the power supply for D Command?

Thanks, that is a good idea. Now if I only had the time (booked solid for a few months)... :P

Re: 911! Anyone know the power supply for D Command?

Well, I'm bound to go for a bunch of S1's or something along those lines eventually anyway, just wondering about a short term fix and if it would be worth it to try to swap PSUs from the spare non-ES...

Re: 911! Anyone know the power supply for D Command?

Resurrecting this - I have a 24f D-Command ES that is having intermittent disconnecting issues. It might work fine for weeks and then drop several times a day. Full power cycles needed to get it back...

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

I'm sure it works, but to me it's adding your eggs into a single basket, and also hindering potential performance at least somewhat.

Much smarter and similar in price would be to have a 1TB Gen4...

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

Agreed, except I would dedicate one physical drive for the OS 1-2TB, fastest you can get. For audio I find even Gen3 speed really good tbh.

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

The i9-14900K is a minor upgrade, so unless the 13th gen is significantly cheaper I would still get that. It also runs slightly cooler at the same power use.

But yeah, you do need cooling. I run...

Re: Balancing / Pan Law Issues Using Track Widths 7.1.4 and Higher

This is quite interesting, but also raises 2 questions:

Did you have Spatial Coding on, and did you have Speaker Snap on?

Both could ifluence this, and their interaction seems to have weird...

Re: Balancing / Pan Law Issues Using Track Widths 7.1.4 and Higher

This is interesting. Did you also compare these pan law behaviour differences on speakers between the actual 7.1.2 bed and the 7.1(.x) component of the object bed? (If they are different, this would...

Re: D-Command with 2022.10

Thanks for the reply. It just started happening more frequently again. It is definitely weird, I can go for weeks without issues, then they appear, and often several times a day it happens.

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

Agreed, that you can always try it with the iGPU first - it's anyway good to have the option as a fallback, IMHO. You can always add a discrete GPU later (second hand options can be very smart...

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

As far as dongles, sure, but personally I'l keep a wifi dongle attached directly to the machine. You can grab a Wifi-supporting motherboard(so no need for dongles), btw.

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

I would say

OS: the fastest you can get. Currently many mobos have one PCIe Gen 5.0 slot, the Crucial T700 is getting lots of recommendations as being the fastest around and it's not super...

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

You can get pretty much the same performance out of the integrated iGPU, and the same connectors on the motherboard (do check that) - so not needed unless you need more connections or GPU power...

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

Yep. Modern Intel processors are totally crippled without Turbo Boost, and no problems with it on.
