Re: ProTools 11 hardware requirements

Following suggestions elsewhere on this forum, I recently built an Intel socket 2011 system, which is the 'enthusiast' performance platform. It includes 4 channel memory for greater speed in that...

Re: It's time ... Site recommends/PC component for PROTOOLS!

What really did it is when I saw them using the Noctuna NH-D14 as the reference air cooler at tomshardware to compare with several closed loop water...

Re: It's time ... Site recommends/PC component for PROTOOLS!

Re: It's time ... Site recommends/PC component for PROTOOLS!

Ok, I hear that.
If I might get specific, I am leaning toward the
Intel Core i7-3820 Sandy Bridge-E 3.6GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 2011 130W Quad-Core Desktop Processor...

Re: Custom pc build

that quad channel memory control really sounds exciting.
Intel DX79S1, for example, supports 8 DIMMS, for a total of 64GB.
Now, is PT11 can use all that, well, gee. I haven't been this excited...

Re: Custom pc build

Always something !

The LGA 2011 socket is used in the high end Intel’s Sandy Bridge processors while the LGA 1155 is used in the mainstream Sandy Bridge ( as well as the forthcoming Ivy Bridge)...

Re: Custom pc build

Well, as I am planning a socket 1155 build, I must say, I am interested in more info on your 'failure', if not too much trouble. Socket 1155 is pretty dominant on the i7 realm.
The LE...

Re: Why I'm NOT complaining about upgrade pricing

I am not complaining because I didn't upgrade since LE, as I just didn't need the upgrades. It looks like my patience is finally being rewarded !
Jump to from 7 to 11 for $399 - sounds like a...

Re: is my 192 useless with 11?

SOUNDS great. I take it there is no 'beta' version available.
Interesting possibilities, for sure.

Re: OK, so how do things currently stand for the 'LE' crowd ?

your take is reasonable, zedhed.
I do wonder if Avid is making more with their current upgrade pricing policy for the previous LE customers, than they would have with more modest (like the old days)...

Re: 003 Discontinued?

Yes. All I need is high quality 8 channel for my 8 bus analog board.
The 002R had the 8 channel configuration I wanted. Looking at Native, I am seeing 16 channel interfaces which are overkill...

Re: the best drum sounds

yeah, MAYBE, if you have great drums, really well tuned and precisely dampened, with carefully developed mic placement (NO SM57 on the snare please).
Drums can be a lot of work to get well set up...

Re: OK, so how do things currently stand for the 'LE' crowd ?

I totally agree with you EGS, and that is my plan.
I hear good things about PT9 but I don't see that upgrade available any more.
But, yes, I have a working system for now.
Partly I am looking to...

Re: OK, so how do things currently stand for the 'LE' crowd ?

What I am really looking for here is simply an official response from Avid to the 'LE' clients on the pricing issue. I see there is one directed at the PT10 HD users, including, effectively, a price...

Re: OK, so how do things currently stand for the 'LE' crowd ?

Well, first, I am a long registered user of a Digi/Avid 002R proprietary interface - not every possible cheapo USB interface. It is not a difficult matter to offer preferred pricing to such...
