Protools FREE shows that a working wavedriver can be produced that allows playback on generic systems. However, the convenience of this approach is lost as soon as you drop your cash...

My 2cents:

MACs are great, but for the cost consious buyer, PC's are a great deal less costly. That will appeal to many people who are interested in LE... who are most likely to be cost conscious...

My Take...

I like the concept behind the unit. The pluses are greatly increased flexibility and mobility in terms of the way you work. You also gain better control and interaction with the touch...

I agree. I have an older MAC which really needs to be put out to pasture. IN the interrum of deciding what to do, I was happy to know that apps like Logic and PTle were reaching a point of maturity...

Wow. This is big news! I can see some benefits as to why Apple would want to do this. They have some very ambitious plans for the audio/midi capabilities of OSX. Perhaps to make them a reality...
