Re: Funky guitar sounds - from a keyboard, no less

Yeah, I guess I opened myself up for a lot of that kind of abuse...I'm not saying I couldn't be talked into going back to playing real tracks, but I'd like to exhaust the keyboard avenue first. I've...

Re: Funky guitar sounds - from a keyboard, no less

Agreed. PJ has been gettin' it done since the HeadHunter days, and still today cuts screamin' tracks with Bob James and others. I'll check your site and let you know.

Funky guitar sounds - from a keyboard, no less

This is a request for some "what's a good way to get this sound" information.

I have been fooling around with tunes in the Boney James/Jeff Lorber/Kirk Whalum genre...lots of funky percussive...

Re: converters >>

Isn't bit depth more related to resolution than to dynamic range? If you squeeze a mix or a track to a very low dynamic range, one squeezed from a 24 bit source should still sound better than one...

Re: PC 133 used in place of PC100

The only thing to watch for is that your memory is all rated the same for latency. For PC100 that will usually be 2-2-2 or 3-2-2. Mixing the two can cause problems (use Apple Profiler to see what you...

Re: Anyone using Logic w/001 and MP enabled?

I bought a DP 500 a year ago full well knowing that the real benefits would not bear fruit until OS X and Logic 5.0 were fully tweaked out; and that may still be months away, but I've never...

Re: Anyone using Logic w/001 and MP enabled?

I've been using Logic/001/DP 500 for a year now (or at least since 4.6.3 began to see MP) with much success. (Still trying to lick the occasional -6045 error, however). Lots of tracks, lots of...

Re: Is 5400 rpm o.k. for back-up?

I think the speed issue would not be significant...especially in a backup role. Hopefully the firewire bus is not the same bus you record on...there have been reports of problems mixing 7200 and 5400...

Re: Good, low cost compressor for kick & snare

It sounds like you're trying to do two things...both brick-wall limit to allow a hot level while tracking, and compress to shape the envelope. I usually try to do the former just for the tracking...

Re: mastering / cdr solution for 001 ?

I'm using an old copy of Toast 3.5.7 and it works great and does everything I need. Of course I come from the school of thought that all of the levels, crossfades, gaps, mastering, eq, etc. should be...

Re: mastering and all that goes with it

I like the approach you outlined. My approach is to begin by getting the hottest signal to the converters as is possible by using (hopefully transparent) brickwall limiting (controls the transients)...

Re: WHAT HARD DRIVES ARE RECOMNDED

Sounds like you have two IDE busses, each capable of handling two devices (this is what my DP 500 has). I recommend putting the OS drive on one bus and the audio drives on the other. Simply set one...

Re: Compressing the main mix?

OK, that makes sense...I also leave it up on the master fader pretty much all of the time. I think the Waves plugs are usually designed not to use headroom for sections not activated, such as the IDR...

I haven't had a chance to try Andrew's fixes yet myself, but what you're describing sounds like a sync problem. I had them when I first set up Logic some years ago, and can't (off the top)...

Re: USB STORAGE

One file copy is the same as another (except for speed) and it shouldn't matter what the format is. You should not see any degradation or have other problems.

Re: Strange Exploding Sound...Eradicated?

Hmmm. Beg to differ...

I've only had Waves 3.0, and I remember other 3.0 users (as well as non-Waves users) having the problem. I'm wondering now if going from 320 ram to 832 did it for me.

Re: How much RAM is enough?

From everything I've read and experienced there is a point where adding ram will not increase track count or plugin count, and in systems like this I think anything over 256/320 is probably not of a...

Your point about bang for the buck is well taken. In my case 2 inputs is likely the max this little studio will ever need, or I would seriously consider...
