For most drives, we use a combo of Norton's, Disk Warrior, and Data Rescue. Each excel at different things and sometimes a drive will show up in one and not the other. We don't regularly use TechTool...

It has been quantified that latency doesn't affect most musician's timing until about 7ms. And it seems to me that Latency isn't even an issue at all if you monitor through a good old fashioned...

Yes, I second that! Go with the Ecrix tape backup and Retrospect. It is rock solid and you will never have to wonder.
I picked mine up a few months ago and have backed up 12 projects on it so far...

BTW, I've got an Adaptec SCSI card and it's got the same problem. Remove the card and Firewire flies.
