Depending on what you mean by cheap, I think the Duet is fantastic for it's price. I believe Apogee has a one pre version now called One, which should be even less $, but I have not used it myself.

I had a 24-bit/48 KHz session, with 32 Stereo tracks record for over 5 minutes without errors. 4 DVerbs inserted on all tracks, and one more added to the first 6. This was with a buffer size...
