Re: New Mac Pro (7.1)

OK great, will be stonking fast compared to SATA etc. but to restate my earlier point that is a x8 card so if you have a x16 slot in your new Mac free you are giving up some performance.

Re: New Mac Pro (7.1)

Yes, but the Evo Plus really does not give any benefit over the Evo and folks were scared off after previous problems (which were fixed) with those drives. So I generally just don't mention them.

Re: New Mac Pro (7.1)

What exact OWC 4TB card? This one: https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/SSDACL4M204T?

The issue with that card is it's stuffing four PCIe 3 x 4 lane M.2 cards into 8 total PCIe 3 lanes. So half the...

Re: APFS or Extended Journaled for session drive?

Ah you are just saying 1991 to make those of us using Macs (and developing software on them) since ~1984 feel old. Damn that's a low blow. But it is great that you know *everything* about debugging...

Re: CPU limit?

What are you trying to do?

Are you looking to limit CPU or memory? What exactly happens if you don’t? Pro Tools crashes (exactly what error)) or twitch is not steaming smoothly?

Pro Tools will...

Re: Would upgrading to Pro Tools Ultimate mean needing to update my system?

Are you talking total tracks (and maybe voices) or are you taking about actual physical inputs and outputs. Exactly what “more” do you need... what limit today, what do you need in future?

For...

Re: 2018 uninstaller?

Pro Tools packaging is a mess, and has gotten worse in the last few years... but so many issues really do get solved by just trashing all prefs etc (just use Peter Gates tool), and if not that then...

Re: 2018 uninstaller?

Nope, not for the main app at least on Mac... drag the app to the trash and empty.

There are uninstallers for cloud collaboration and Link... and no studio should be allowing either of those buggy...

Lots of past posts on GUI issues. Some fixed by more recent macOS releases.

Re: Installing older OSX onto external HD to run earlier PT version?

It is actually not hard, but you do need to think through a few things and be careful. And yes OK for a first time go at stuff like this might take a while, but once you have this sort of stuff done...

Re: Installing older OSX onto external HD to run earlier PT version?

No info on what iMac you have.... which would have been useful.

If your sessions will stay on the current internal boot/system drive you can leave them there. As long as you are not trying to boot...

Re: Pro Tools I/O and Focusrite Scarlett

You need to read your 18i8 documentation. The S/PDIF Out is not a discrete output, it normally mirrors 1&2.

Re: APFS or Extended Journaled for session drive?

What a pile of nonsense. You don't seem want help, and it's none of other people's business, but then you are pissed off when I don't give you a solution. So what is it you want help or you don't? Oh...

Re: Pulsing sound when playing midi instruments

Oh boy, darn I hate these. I was hoping it was something simple like phasing.

So it only happens when you are playing back stuff through Pro Tools, of any type MIDI through a VI or just a click......

Re: APFS or Extended Journaled for session drive?

In this case, where stuff has *nothing* to do with Pro Tools and presents itself in such an obvious glaring pain in the ass way... then focusing on DUC is likely a waste of time. There are hundreds...

Yes, what VI etc. (we are assuming you are playing MIDI through a VI not recording an outboard MIDI instrument... but you need to really describe what you are doing).

For your recording was the...

Re: Pulsing sound when playing midi instruments

I doubt anybody can guess what your "pulsing" sounds like.... how fast is it pulsing? how deep? Do you see that in meters or only hear it? Could it be a phasing issue? Could you accidentally have say...

Re: Is UAD worth it?

Because the simple thing you asked does not really make sense. It matters what *you* do.... asking other people some number they see won't help you. The latency is driven by the IO buffer. And you...

Re: Is the current Macbook Air acceptable as a B machine for Protools?

If it's worth worrying enough to ask it's worth you testing... beside time downloading all the XCode junk it should take you 10's of minutes to test... and it will not hurt anything.

Re: Is the current Macbook Air acceptable as a B machine for Protools?

Nobody here can possibly give you any useful advice... as nobody has any clue what you are doing with this.

What config is your current MacBook Pro?

The glaring difference between your Mac Pro...

Re: Poor solution to the CPU Spikes

OK, but I suspect lots of folks already knew that.

But more importantly to actually try to fix you problem... I would try Mojave or Catalina in a test install. Serious performance issues, like...
