Re: Sound Devices MixPre-3 II

So I got the MixPre-3 II and as expected it's really nice. Been recording some video audio though a Sennheiser MKE 600 shotgun. I like the small size but expect I I'll run out of inputs in future and...

Re: The best amp modeling plugin?

Positive Grid Bias is good.

But for me, I still think Eleven II is fantastic.

But nowadays I'm often reach for my Axe-FX FM3.

Re: Please recommend an external SSD drive for me

My understanding is it tries to do something sane but you cannot get blood out of a stone. Memory is cheap if you can add it... fast PCIe/NVMe disk always helps and both together should also interact...

Re: Please recommend an external SSD drive for me

This is not clearly explained and trips up folks. So a good question.

"Normal" is more how Pro Tools has worked before. For aggressive disk caching you want to set the disk cache to a numeric...

Re: Please recommend an external SSD drive for me

The OP did not mention printing anything.

A lot has changed in the last large part of a decade. ultra-fast PCIe/NVMe based SSDs on one hand and Pro Tools disk cache on the other (but don't rely...

Re: Please recommend an external SSD drive for me

Make sure your mac home drive is *not* shared on iCloud... that can totally cause IO issues.

And with disk errors double check that the sessions are really going to that internal ultra-fast SSD....

Re: Anyone tried Protools on an M1 mac yet?

I think you missread the sentiment here. Lots of folks here have workloads that won't run on a base level memory footprint system. It will be interesting for all of those users when it gets...

Re: Why is PT 2020 not located under "applications " ?

^^^ yep you have likely just gotten yourself confused. You need to be looking carefully for the location of “Pro Tools.app” not just any folder called “Pro Tools”.

Start by setting the Finder to...

Re: Sound Devices MixPre-3 II

Thanks I have already thought through the power options... I have a few quite large (20Ah each!) Anker Lithium power banks that output on USB-C. Just need to work out how to tie one to the tripod....

Re: Sound Devices MixPre-3 II

Thanks! I also found some good videos on YouTube that answered some other questions. I think this is the box for me.

I’d also like to find a nice portable HDMI splitter to use to split timecode...

Sound Devices MixPre-3 II

Hey folks

Any reports on the Sound Devices MixPre-3 II used as a CoreAudio/Class compliant USB interface on macOS?

I need a small field recorder and want to be able to dock it at times as an...

Re: PT 2020.12 Occasionally stopping playing - Windows update service?

Uh. I am not sure of the exact reference here, but generally I am a fan of going with Windows 10 Pro and using that to disable those toxic updates. I think I have suggested not trying to mess around...

Re: CPU peak in simple session with 24 cores and 128 gB ram

Remember if you are installing third party plugins for Studio One, even demo plugins, many of them will install plugins for Pro Tools as well. If it was me I'd. just move all the .aaxplugin files out...

Re: Audio Drive Recommendations?

Samsung 860 Evo would likely be my go to.

Crucial is owned by Micron, a major manufacturer of NAND chips. They make nice drives, but typically make a wide variety of performance/cost drives. And...

Re: Pro tools First...what a joke

Bull, it lets you save a local copy of the cloud project. It is not a Pro Tools session, and is not compatible with Pro Tools sessions. Please check your own facts.

And so what? What happens if...

Totally agree with you about First. But, personally I would not trust collaboration on any version of Pro Tools. What happens when Avid cloud eats it all? I hope you have it l saves as a session and...

Re: CPU peak in simple session with 24 cores and 128 gB ram

Uncheck "ignore errors" while troubleshooting. It will mask/hinder solving any problems. You hopefully will get a DAE error then instead of clicks and pops... then solve for thats DAE error.

It's...

Re: Anyone tried Protools on an M1 mac yet?

I very much expect to see DIMMs in any Mac Pro like machine. It's a packaging and flexibility issue and packaging is likely very much to do with heat. DIMMs make that cooling easier. And might help...

Re: Cannot get Studio Monitor to work w/ 11r

No. This is a standard XLR balanced output, it detects nothing. And many people will run an Eleven Rack in mono mode. The rig setup supports mono deliberately to support this. That is how I largely...

Re: CPU peak in simple session with 24 cores and 128 gB ram

You have CPU meter peaks??? Or you have actual Pro Tools AAE CPU errors. What exact errors? If you are not getting actual errors just ignore what the meters are doing.

If you are getting actual...
