I ran into this same problem using PT 8.0.5, when i upgraded PT.
But I was doing Normalization/Gain Change

And When I pressed Preview..... Booom CRASH..
Happens all the time.

So I down-graded...

Are you saying that Pro Tools Program itself can not utilize more than 2.8 gigs of system memory,

I am getting the same thing in 8.0.4.
And I have 8-gigs of DDR3.

So I am going to purchase G-Skull 12 gigs and see if that clears the problem.

I suggest you try upgrading your memory sticks...

At first I was having trouble finding it.
But then I hit the surrounding bar around the smart tool and got it.

Its too bad that it required a minimum of 4 samples in order for it to do the task. ...
