HD users have been required to use an ilok since at least 2003. That's when I got my HD system. It may have been required before that.

I'm not sure what you mean, but shift+command+G will suspend all groups and unsuspend them. Also while a group is on, you can hold down control and solo one of the tracks or change a track's volume...
