Re: Pro Tools 8 and G5 Users Update?

The 2nd drive thing is the way to go. I can always retain my old system that way.

Good to hear people doing well with it. I think the original concern revolved around 8 (in theory) being...

Re: Pro Tools 8 and G5 Users Update?

Hmmm, so far so good.

Did either of you notice any stability improvements with the updates? Perhaps it was more of a v.1 problem? (The issues I was hearing about.)

Question Pro Tools 8 and G5 Users Update?

Hey all,

Checking back in to see how things are going for those running 8 on G5 machines, particularly... dual processor G5's?

I'm running a dual 1.8 G5 and PT7 (HD) has run flawlessly for...

Smile Re: Pro Tools HFS+ / Macdrive Error "Not a valid Audio volume for recording"

I've had this issue in Mac OS. Sometimes you can solve it by doing what you did, and tweaking the R/P settings in the workspace. But, if that doesn't work...

Quit PT. Go into EVERY drive...

Workspace window re-size?

Am I nuts, or will the workspace windows not shrink to the thin sizes they used to? (Or both? :)

Am I missing something simple? I used to be able to just drag these to a very thin size to fit on...

Re: Pro Tools 8 TDM with a G5 Dual 1.8? Any updates?

Damned good bit of advice. Hadn't really considered that, but I like it as an option.

Still love to hear others' recent experiences, but that's a great bit of info. Thanks!

Smile Pro Tools 8 TDM with a G5 Dual 1.8? Any updates?

I've done some thread-digging and it seems that there have been a wealth of problems related to anyone attempting to use 8 on a G5. (TDM)

So, I'm just looking for a general show of hands of anyone...

Re: Pro Tools 8 Mac compatibility

My bad... overheard some chatter today and must have misunderstood. Thought it was already out there. I've heard some varying reports on whether or not PT8 will be G5-friendly. So, I'll be anxious to...

Pro Tools 8 Mac compatibility

Running an HDII system on a dual G5. Has anyone using a similar set-up upgraded to PT8 and have any early impressions?

Any thoughts from anyone else about compatibility with my G5? (Current on...

Re: Pro Tools TDM v. LE: Speed/Video...

Not sure of the codec type. I'd have to ask the editors. All I know is it's full rez QTs. A 43 minute
show is usually around 10 or 11 gb. I'll try to find out.

As a rule, I've run video/audio...

Re: Pro Tools TDM v. LE: Speed/Video...

Yea, I get full-rez quicktime files from the editors I work with. Don't know if that's helping or hurting. Will do some research.
The lag thing is pretty annoying, though not destructive. The work...

Re: Pro Tools TDM v. LE: Speed/Video...

Yea, admittedly... I did my trials on an Mbox II. I was very curious as to whether or not the FW LE systems would have more umph. Sounds like they do.

Anyone else have pros/cons of their FW LE...

Pro Tools TDM v. LE: Speed/Video...

Hey y'all...

Did some digging and read a few opinions on this. I'd love to hear a few more. I'm a TDM (HD3) user, full-time. I recently put together an Mbox 2 system for back-up, mobile, etc.

Yea, I only speculate on the power supply because we did have a power dim here in my part of LA last week. Someone at the post house had stolen my surge protector, believe it or...

Control 24 Dead! Help?

Hey y'all. Happy holidays...

So, in a not so happy turn of events... I walked into the bay over at a post-house where I work and the Control 24 looks like it's on life support.... or dead.

Re: MASTERING: Above digital zero...

I'm basically referring to the concept that all digital equipment (in theory) has a zero reference point. Going "over" (so to speak) at least in the context of this conversation is pushing levels up...

Re: MASTERING: Above digital zero...

It's all good. There's really only been one loser who had so little to contribute, he had to immediately resort to name-calling.

Outside of that, there have been some interesting response from...

Re: MASTERING: Above digital zero...

Agree. I've long been of a more conservative opinion as well. I think where people are making their volume adjustments is in post-bounce apps. For instance, if people are mastering to a -1.0 hard...

Yep, you just keep on posting.

So, to recap... you're too cool, way too above this, way too technically advanced... yet you keep posting here and keep calling people names.

LOL

You've given NO answers. You argued about semantics, then someone else tried to explain the question to you... and then you attacked them, too.

Seriously, just admit that you have nothing...

Exactly, and going "above digital zero" is basically mastering with a hard zero ceiling (in Pro Tools, for instance)... and adding volume to the bounced file...

Re: MASTERING: Above digital zero...

Thanks for the deep, well-thought out answer.

CDs show red right out of the package, now... and almost every prosumer mastering package offers gain levels above zero.
So, there IS a such thing....

MASTERING: Above digital zero...

So, more and more colleagues are telling me they're pushing levels above zero. I believe it because now on about half of the CDs I import into a session, the audio is in the red already.

My...

Re: Help? Spinning wheel for 10 seconds when trying to recor

O.K... success!

It was indeed the "use all space" option in preferences.

I took the advice of changing it to 10 minutes instead, and it records with no stall... no problem.

Weird side...
