The reason is painfully simple, FAT32 does NOT support file transfers over 4GB. While lots of other DAW's out there support FAT32, Pro Tools does not because there is a possiblity that recording long...

this sounds like a core audio/wave driver problem. Happend with my 002.

make sure your system prefs do not allow the 002 to handle system/non PT sound as it will randomly disconnect when...

I'm having the SAME problem. Have done all the steps listed in this post (except the hotfix as it says it applies to sp2 only). I run a Dell Inspiron 1525 (qualified) @ 2ghz & 3gb ram on Windows XP...
