Unfortunately 4 x 4 GB ram is max, and extra ram hasn't helped a lot.

Any suggestions on what drives to get for an imac 2.7GHz, mid 2011?

Great, this gives me something to think about...

Until I change my gear or upgrade, any tips on how to optimize the performance of the Imac/PT10 right now?

I already have installed max ram...

Hey - thanks all....

I might consider buying an older Mac pro and two monitors, if that could solve the CPU problem for now, and furthermore I get to keep my old plugins a while longer. ...

Right now, unfortunately, I don't have the cash for a new mac, so I'm looking for an upgrade that optimizes my gear to the best possible combination right now.
