Re: subscription renewal doubled in price

To me the saddest part is how long it’s been this way. Signs were there and things started going downhill probably at least a decade ago. Trust me they’ve had more than ample opportunity to turn...

Re: subscription renewal doubled in price

Man I haven't been on here in years. I just checked and it looks like my subscription expired in 2015 haha. Anyway I got an email from Avid about reinstatement plans. I kind of chuckled and thought...

Re: Intel vs. AMD for Pro Tools

Yeah the way I see it the first ryzen's compete with the quad-core desktop i7's. The new threadripper series is their answer to the HPDT chips. The 6-18 core i7's and now i9's. And the Epyc are more...

Intel vs. AMD for Pro Tools

That's what I was trying to say. Previously the least expensive cpu of the "E" series chips had 28 lanes. The others had 40. Now they've decided the 2 least expensive chips get 28. Instead of just...

Re: Intel vs. AMD for Pro Tools

No doubt intel has dropped prices. But they also changed some features. Used to the lowest chip had 28 pcie lanes and the rest 40. Now the bottom 2 are limited to 28 lanes. How many people that...

Re: Intel vs. AMD for Pro Tools

Holy thread resurrection. Haha.

I have been kind of oblivious to what's been happening in the cpu world. Figured intel was still dominating. However a month or so ago, I saw something about AMD's...

i7 Builds - Specs and Results

No worries. And that looks a lot like what I would spec if I were to build a new pc. But honestly haven't kept the most up to date with what's available.

One thing to look at. I think that...

Re: Current top of the line Windows Laptop for Protools

Still haven't had any time to tweak my settings, but I got to thinking about it. I miscounted. I did use 10 dverbs per channel. So that might have helped. What I did was create the test tone track....

Current top of the line Windows Laptop for Protools

I will tweak some more. Remove 3rd party plugs. Use an actual interface and see where I can get to.

What scores are others getting with a laptop? Just out of curiosity?

Current top of the line Windows Laptop for Protools

Well here's my first results. They could probably be better with some more tweaking. And they may not be that good. But I got 385. The meter was hovering right around 93-100% but never heard any...

Re: Current top of the line Windows Laptop for Protools

Almost forgot to post here. I haven't done anything that would stress the system yet, but did carry it out to the truck and tweak a mix in the truck. Something I've always wanted to do. Seems as...

Re: Current top of the line Windows Laptop for Protools

Cool. I've installed paragon and it seems to be showing all my files. I've only used it briefly before. I'll stick with it for now. Man I forgot how much stuff I have to install. Getting there.

Re: Current top of the line Windows Laptop for Protools

Something like that is what I'll probably do. The weird thing to me, is on the dell website, there is an option for a second PCIe SSD. But according to the owners manual online, there's only one...

Re: Current top of the line Windows Laptop for Protools

Will do. It's been a while since I set up windows for audio. So it might take a bit to get it running its best. And I may try hackintoshing it. I've done that a time or two. I'll def report back....

Current top of the line Windows Laptop for Protools

Fwiw I just found out about their precision 7510 laptops. Found a refurb one on eBay with an i7-6920hq processor, 16GB of RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, tb3, and USB 3.0. For less than $1200. Should give my...

i7 Builds - Specs and Results

Wow that is an impressive upgrade. Especially on the 6800k. Not that it's any slouch. I just don't like how intel takes out 12 of the pcie lanes on the least expensive processor. I know it's to help...

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

We may just have to agree to disagree, but the Broadwell E5-v4 Xeons are the same generation as the Broadwell-E i7-6800/6900. The Xeon/HEDT chips are always a generation behind the Desktop chips....
