Unable to reacquire hardware

Pro Tools is unable to reacquire hardware because it is in use by another application.
I can not adjust the buffer size.
I don't have any other applications on the computer and am not hooked up to...

No messages but it does progress through a fair amount of plug ins.
I think Tom is on the right path. I just don't know how to deactivate them.
Maybe it has to do with the template sessions...they...

I don't know. I don't have any third party plugs, just got the software last week. Maybe there's a way to see what is active on start up? I've closed sessions with minimal plug ins to see if that...

Yeah weird...maybe 3 plug-ins, 4 max.
And this is just launching the program...not loading a session, you know?

Any ideas on how to open older sessions? I have upgraded from Digi 001, PT 6.4LE on a 10.4 G4 Mac to Digi 002, PT 8LE, on a XP (sp3) Dell 4600?
